The Nutcracker BIO

The Nutcracker is the world's most performed ballet, a two-act Christmas classic with music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography originally by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Premiering in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892, this enchanting story follows young Clara who receives a nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. The doll comes to life, battles the Mouse King, and takes Clara on a magical journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. Performed by ballet companies worldwide every holiday season, The Nutcracker accounts for nearly half of many ballet companies' annual revenues and is beloved by audiences of all ages.

This year, the Brandywine Ballet will present The Nutcracker at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall in West Chester, Pennsylvania from December 5 to December 20, 2026. This production is part of their holiday season performances, which are cherished annual traditions for families across North America.

Highlights from the performance include iconic pieces such as the "March of the Toy Soldiers," "Waltz of the Snowflakes," and "Grand Pas de Deux." The production features elaborate period costumes and a live orchestra, creating a festive atmosphere that enhances the overall experience.
